The Mustangs are headed to the playoffs but what happens on Friday against Colleyville will play a big part in who Grapevine will face in the playoffs. The Mustangs must win on Friday to get the first seed in Division II (smaller attendance schools).
The four teams from district 5-5A who will be going to the playoffs are: (listed in attendance order)
- Trinity (2,984 enrollment)
- Keller (2,923)
- Colleyville (2,461)
- Grapevine (2,212)
Grapevine has the smallest attendance numbers of the four schools, only 12 over the 2,200 limit for 4A schools. Trinity and Keller will head to Division I, being the larger schools and Colleyville and Grapevine will go to Division II.
If Grapevine beats Colleyville we will become the first seed so we will meet the lower seed from district 6-5A, currently Flower Mound Marcus. If we lose we will face our friends across the railroad tracks (Southlake Carroll).
The venue is still in question, the kids always look forward to the games at Texas Stadium but since Cowboy Stadium (Jerry World) was built it may be difficult for the school districts to afford the hefty price tag (about $30,000 per game). Other available venues will be the bigger high school stadiums in the area (Birdville Fine Arts Athletic Complex, Tommy Standridge Stadium, Carroll Dragon Stadium and Pennington Stadium).
Where ever or whom ever the Mustangs play doesn’t matter, we are just happy to be in the playoffs.
GO MUSTANGS!
